As China has extended the New Year holiday because of the COVID-19 outbreak, many are concerned that the country may cancel some holidays this year to make up for missed working days.

The 2020 Chinese holiday schedule unveiled recently indicates that China will not shorten or cancel the following holidays this year:

Qingming Festival (Tomb Sweeping Day)

April 4th-6th (3 days in total)

May Day

May 1st-5th (5 days in total)

April 26th(Sunday) and May 9th (Saturday) are official working days

Dragon Boat Festival

June 25th-27th (3 days in total)

June 28th (Sunday) is an official working day

National Festival & Mid-Autumn Festival

October 1st-8th (8 days in total)

September 27th (Sunday) and October 10th (Saturday) are official working days

Guangdong suspends memorial activities in cities

Qingming Festival is an important festival to the Cantonese when they reunite with family members and pay respect to their ancestors, sweeping their tombs and burning incense as an offering.

In light of the present situation, Guangdong released an announcement recently suspending sweeping tomb activities in high-risk regions. Thus far, Shenzhen, Zhongshan,Shantou and Zhaoqing have restricted all sweeping tomb activities while Shantou is encouraging memorial activities to be conducted online.
