GPHL’s Chenliji Traditional Chinese Medicine Cultural Park was listed as a National AAA Tourist Attraction on December 11th, 2019. The first national TCM tourist attraction in Haizhu, it has become a popular tourist destination for locals and visitors alike, giving everyone a chance to learn more about TCM culture. The park contains one museum, two gardens, one TCM culture exhibition area, and three squares.
Founded in 2004, the museum showcases the history of Chinese medicine, pharmaceutical preparation technology, traditional TCM products, old packaging of TCM products, calligraphy and paintings on TCM, Chenliji’s wax shell pills and dried tangerine peel.
Walking around the garden, you will be able to see all kinds of herbs that can be used as medicinal ingredients. Don’t miss out on the agarwood, known as chénxiāng (沉香) in Chinese, a fragrant dark resinous wood used in incense. It is also one of the main medicinal ingredients used in producing Chenliji’s signature product.
Want to know which plants are poisonous but can also be used as medicinal ingredients? You will find the answers in this garden, where you can find datura, upas-tree, gelsemium elegan, and many other otherwise poisonous herbs.
This area features the Huangdi Neijing, or Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, the fundamental doctrinal text for Chinese medicine for more than two millennia, the Tai Chi Diagram, and Chenliji culture relief, from which you can learn about the history and culture of Chinese medicine.
The square is composed of two statues of Chen Tiquan and Li Shengzuo, a friendship wharf and a lucida ganoderma pavilion. The pharmaceutical factory Chenliji was co-founded in 1600 by Cantonese businessmen Chen Tiquan and Li Shengzuo and named as ‘Chenliji’ in hope that Chen and Li would work together to save lives.
The other two squares ‘Hero Square’ and ‘Longevity Square’ showcase Chenliji’s heroes over the past centuries and its longevity culture through statues and relief.
