From December 5th to 6th, the 2nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Medicine Inheritance, Innovation and Development Conference 2019 (GBA CMIIDC) was held in Hengqin, Zhuhai, on the theme of ‘inheritance, innovation and mutal beneift’. About 300 people from governments within the Greater Bay Area, Chinese medicine education and the healthcare industry attended the conference, where GPHL chairman Li Chuyuan gave a keynote speech.
Officials from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao governments signed the Memorandum of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Medicine Cooperation, in which they reached a consensus on six points, and also entered into 14 agreements on GBA Chinese medicine inheritance and innovation projects.
Attendees from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao believe that they should use Chinese medicine as an entry point or ‘hook’ for discussing how Chinese medicine can facilitate the progress of developing GBA, and how they can strengthen cooperation and communication in the fields of people and research.
On the afternoon of December 5th, Li Chuyuan delivered the keynote speech entitled ‘Inherit the Essence, Keep Tradition and Innovation, and Build a World-class Enterprise’. Li Chuyuan pointed out that GPHL’s sales in the first three quarters of 2019 equates to 100.203 billion RMB. GPHL is China’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, and owns a variety of brands, such as Wanglaoji, Chenliji, and Baiyunshan. Its marketing concept ‘Trendy TCM’ is aimed at satisfying people’s demand for healthy products.
Li Chuyuan explained that Guangdong province has unique advantages in resources for the Chinese medicine industry, which can complement the international resources from Hong Kong and Macau.
So far, GPHL has entered into strategic cooperation agreements with the University of Hong Kong, GMTCM Park and the University of Macau. In the future, GPHL will promote medicine registration and mutual recognition in the GBA, help develop international standards for Chinese medicine and treatments, and actively explore integration of different industries at GBA, such as elderly care services, tourism, culture, sports and catering.
GPHL will next plan to set up international headquarters in Macao, striving to construct a complete healthcare ecosystem that consists of pharmaceutical product development, advanced manufacturing, commerce, cultural experiences, and health and wellbeing.
