¥51 billion smuggled goods seized by Guangdong police

Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department announced at a press conference on October 31st, that Guangdong police, customs and coast guard jointly solved more than 15 thousand smuggling cases from January to September this year, seizing goods worth more than 51 billion RMB.

Zhou Huashan, Director of the Anti-smuggling Bureau of Guangdong’s Provincial Public Security Department, stated that the smuggled goods seized by Guangdong police mainly include oil products, frozen meat, imported waste, ivory products and more.

In September this year, Guangzhou Coast Guard detained over 1000 tons of smuggled frozen meat off the coast of Nansha, Guangzhou.

According to a spokesperson for Guangdong police, the frozen meat had been shipped from Brazil, Poland, America, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada and other countries unlabelled.

“Most of the frozen meat, such as chicken wings, pig ears and pig tripe, are not inspected by inspection and quarantine institutions and have mainly been shipped from epidemic areas.” Zhou said. “It could risk public health, if this meat were to reach the market.”

Zhou stressed that Guangdong police will strengthen their efforts to crack down on the smuggling of goods like frozen meat and oil products, so as to create a safer and more stable social environment.

Furthermore, the spokesperson indicated that people who submit tip offs or clues leading to the arrest of oil related smuggling gangs will be rewarded. All whistleblowers’ information is strictly confidential and protected.
