The first Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Day was celebrated in Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, on Tuesday with a seminar centering on TCM development in the country.

Zhang Jianmin, Chinese ambassador to the Czech Republic, said TCM has a history of thousands of years and is an important part of China's culture. TCM not only belongs to China, but also belongs to the world. He added that the event would help promote the exchange and cooperation in the field of TCM in the Czech Republic.

Jan Hovorka, president of the Endowment Fund of TCM and Alternatives, said although Czech people have been getting more knowledge about TCM in the past years, it's still a long way to go for TCM in the Czech Republic. The Fund has spared no efforts in the past years in promoting TCM and setting up TCM centers in the country.

Guan Xin, director of the Sino-Czech TCM Center, considers the TCM not only a system of medicine, but also a healthy life style. He said that since its founding, the Center has been trying to promote the knowledge of TCM and healthy life style to the Czech people.

Oliver Steindler, who had studied in China for seven years, is now a TCM believer. "I have the opportunity to know about TCM when I was in China and TCM not only helped me with my health problems but also allows me to help others with some of the methods I learned. For me, TCM is not only a way of treatment, but also a bridge linking people of the two countries," he said.

Events like expert consultations and demonstration of TCM methods were also held to celebrate the occasion.
