On September 22nd, GPHL erected a statue of Liu Changxiao at the Shennong Caotang Museum in order to raise awareness of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and brain health in wider society, and promote the development of relevant treatments.

Liu Changxiao, an academic from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was born in April 1942 in Hunan province. He was one of the pioneers of pharmacokinetics in China as well as the first to propose the concept of traditional Chinese medicine quality markers. He served as dean of School of Chinese Materia Medica of Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, research of Tianjin Institute of Pharmaceutical Research, director of Key Laboratory of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, GPHL chief scientist and dean of Institute of Hutchison Whampoa Guangzhou Baiyunshan Chinese Medicine.

Statues of prominent figures from Chinese medicine, such as Prof. Tu Youyou, Zhong Nanshan (academic), Liu Changxiao (academic), Xuan Guowei, Zhou Daihan and Deng Tietao, are placed at the Shennong Caotang Museum. GPHL chairman Li Chuyuan stated that such statues in the museum represent the inheritance of traditional Chinese medicine legacy from ancient times to this era, and Mr. Liu is an admirable example for everyone in terms of his academic achievements and personality.

On the same day, the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Medicine Symposium was hosted by GPHL and Guangdong Precision Medicine Application Association, and organized by Hutchison Whampoa Guangzhou Baiyunshan Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd., with the support and guidance from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Bureau of Guangdong Province, Medical Products Administration of Guangdong Province and the Guangdong Provincial Association for Science and Technology. This symposium was held at the Shennong Caotang Museum, in which top scientists in China’s TCM universe discussed philosophy of treating CV and CVA diseases with TCM, cutting-edge developments in CV and CVA treatment research and top issues about brain health, with fusion of fundamental and clinic perspectives, and established and latest concepts.

The Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Medicine Symposium

The symposium launched the Philanthropic Sponsorship for Cantonese, Hong Kong and Macao Heart and Brain Health Program which, based on Baiyunshan Compound Red Sage Tablets Charitable Foundation, aims to raise awareness and disseminate information on the prevention and treatment of CV and CVA diseases, improve the health of CV and CVA patients, and financially support such patients in need.

The charitable foundation was founded by GPHL’s Hutchison Whampoa Guangzhou Baiyunshan Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. with 10 million RMB in September 2014. Upon establishment, it recruited around 10,000 volunteers around the country to carry out activities with specific themes in China each year.
