On August 21st, over 110 people from Guangdong and Malaysian businesses attended the 2019 China (Guangdong)-Malaysia Bilateral Business Council Meeting in Zhuhai.

Chen Guowei, Malaysia’s Special Envoy to China and President of the Malaysia-China Business Council, said at the meeting that as the first ASEAN country to establish relations with China, Malaysia is a firm and reliable friend of China, while China is Malaysia’s largest trading partner. Both sides should seize the opportunities brought by the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) in pursuit of mutual benefit and win-win results.

Since its establishment in 2008, the business council meeting has been successfully held 11 times with many successful joint projects as a result, according to Fang Lixu, Vice President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT Guangdong). It is hoped that the two sides will take advantage of the platform to continue strengthening cooperation in business as well as economic and trade links.

The China(Guangdong)-Malaysia Bilateral Business Council Meeting was jointly initiated by the CCPIT Guangdong and Malaysia-Guangdong Chamber of Investment Promotion (MGCIP), playing an important role in promoting exchange between Guangdong and Malaysia. The meeting has contributed a lot to both sides’ economic development. In 2018, the combined import and export volume of Guangdong and Malaysia reached $30 billion, representing an increase of 11.4% year-on-year.
