On May 18th, 2019, a Guangzhou delegation led by Guangzhou’s Party Chief Zhang Shuofu, including representatives from GPHL, headed to Auckland, New Zealand participating in activities organised by the Guangzhou-Auckland-Los Angeles Economic Alliance (the Tripartite Economic Alliance).

Auckland: Home to the first overseas Shennong Caotang TCM Cultural Centre

On May 20th, GPHL and the Confucius Institute in Auckland (“CI in Auckland”) announced a TCM promotion partnership. Major attendees at the press conference included government officials from both Guangzhou and Auckland, Xiao Yewen, Vice Consul General of the PRC in Auckland, Ms. Nora Yao, Director of CI in Auckland, Mr. Li Chuyuan, Chairman of GPHL, and Mr. Weng Shaoquan, General Manager of Guangzhou Wanglaoji Health Industry Co., Ltd. (“Wanglaoji Health”).

During the press conference, GPHL presented the CI in Auckland with a Plaque bearing the legend “Shennong Caotang Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Centre”. In the future, the two parties will work together in training future TCM talent and sharing educational resources.



In his speech at the Tripartite Economic Alliance Summit, Li Chuyuan said, “The TCM philosophy of preventive treatment is likely to become a trend in the global healthcare industry. I believe that efforts to share Chinese and western medical knowledge will make even more significant contributions to people’s health.”

A TCM Exhibition was also opened in the CI in Auckland on the same day, showcasing a variety of TCM products and herbs. Local visitors and students were very interested in the exhibition, and many of them hope to visit China and learn more about the essence of traditional Chinese culture.

Wang Lao Ji sets up the first overseas scholarship program

GPHL and the University of Auckland entered into an agreement to set up GPHL’s first overseas scholarship entitled the “New Zealand Wang Lao Ji Auspiciousness Cultural Ambassador Scholarship”, supporting students from the University of Auckland by offering an internship at GPHL.

During the signing ceremony, Mr. Li said the spirit of Wanglaoji is offering people a better life, and that Wanglaoji is committed to spreading TCM culture and products across the whole world.

Ms. Nora Yao, Director of the CI in Auckland, said Wanglaoji have made efforts toward multicultural fusion and development by supporting global promotion and academic research of TCM culture, and attracting more and more foreign students to learn more about Chinese culture.

Since 2018, Wanglaoji has established two overseas herbal tea museums in New York and Tokyo respectively, and launched exhibition tours about herbal tea culture, widely promoting TCM.
