Recently, Baiyunshan’s Jinge, also known as ‘Chinese Viagra’, won the China Patent Excellence Award in Beijing during the Ceremony for the 20th WIPO-SIPO Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Design.

Before, foreign pharmaceutical giants had almost complete control over China’s market for treating erectile dysfunction (ED). But in 2014, the patent for Viagra expired in China, opening the door for domestic drug makers to produce and market generic versions of the blockbuster drug. GPHL’s Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical General Factory became the first to do so with Baiyunshan’s Jinge, which went on sale in September 2014.

Nowadays, Jinge’s sales volume ranks first in China in terms of its like products. It was also the top selling drug in both 2017 and 2018 on T-mall during ‘Single’s Day’ or Double 11, China’s largest online shopping festival on November 11th.

The WIPO-SIPO Award for Chinese Outstanding Patented Inventions and Industrial Design was established by the State Intellectual Property Office in 1989. It is granted by the Chinese Government to encourage outstanding patented inventions and industrial designs, and has gained recognition from the World Intellectual Property Organization.
