The Fifth Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Science Conference was held at Huizhou’s Luofu Mountain, on the theme of “linking Chinese medicine with Western medicine to boost progress”.

The conference is the leading TCM academic meeting in China as well as on the world stage, attracting government officials at both national and local level , Nobel Prize winners, academics in the field and representatives from TCM enterprises.

During the conference, Yu Yanhong, Party Chief and Deputy Head of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, unveiled a sculpture in GPHL’s Shennong Herbal Garden.

The sculpture commemorates Tu Youyou who was the first Chinese scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering artemisinin, the gold standard treatment for malaria, and showcased the value of TCM to the world.

Yu Yanhong also visited the Shennong Herbal Garden and planted a variety of Chinese herbs in the Garden accompanied by Li Chuyuan, GPHL’s Party Chief and President. She praised the Garden and GPHL’s efforts in educating the public about  TCM while offering advice for further improvement.

Li Chuyuan was invited to the conference and delivered a speech during the opening ceremony of the Lingnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Exposition: a major event at the conference.

Li Chuyuan said Luofu Mountain has had a far-reaching effect on the development of TCM in the Lingnan region and the rest of Southeast Asia. “GPHL is dedicated to delivering the TCM culture,” he said, “in recent years, GPHL has been promoting TCM in a more fashionable way, using the most advanced technology and marketing strategies that are most well received by young people.”
