On August 19th, Guangdong’s leading group on the construction of the Greater Bay Area held a meeting aiming to implement the Central Committee’s Decisions on the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and plan Guangdong’s action.

Li Xi, Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Committee, presided over the meeting.

Last Wednesday, Han Zheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Chinese Vice Premier and head of the Leading Group on Construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, stressed the importance of efforts to establish the Greater Bay Area as a vibrant world-class bay area at a meeting of the group.

In the meeting, Li emphasized the opportunities that this national strategy entails, regarding it as another historical opportunity for the province and also a mission to better carry out the policy of “One Country, Two Systems”.

Li indicated that the province should take advantage of the Pearl River Delta’s strengths and optimize the connections between eastern, western and northern parts of the province with the greater bay area, so as to improve the province’s ability to innovate and be competitive.

Li said that to build a robust economy, much attention should be paid to the following five key areas - upgrading the market, cooperation in technological innovation, expanding the scope of opening up, improving the welfare of the population and promoting the construction of key platforms for future cooperation.

During the meeting, Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui said that the whole province should join in on the construction of the Greater Bay Area. Efforts should be made to enhance the construction of major infrastructure projects, ensuring the well-being of the population, promoting better living conditions, and tightening cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, to establish the Area as a world-class and vibrant area.
