A magnitude-5 earthquake hit Yunnan’s Yuxi at 1:44 am Monday, August 13th. According to China Earthquake Networks Center, the epicenter was at a depth of 7 km in Sijie, Tonghai. Later at 3:50 on Tuesday’s morning, another magnitude-5 earthquake hit the same area at a depth of 6 km.

Thus far, more than 76,000 residents in Yuxi have been affected by these quakes and nearly 40,000 residents were evacuated. Although no casualties have been reported, over 8,000 families’ homes were damaged.

After two magnitude-5 quakes, residents were afraid to return to their homes. Tents were set up in the open fields for shelter.
