To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Medical Humanities Committee of Guangdong Medical Doctor Association, a conference with the theme of humanistic medical care was held at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University on July 28th.

As an issue involving people's livelihood, medical treatment has not only raised public concern, but also attracted great attention from the government. Chinese government has attached great emphasis on the medical humanities in health care reforms in recent year, showing the country’s efforts on medical humanities construction.

“Medical humanities bears not only the technical responsibility of treatment, but also the social responsibility of providing psychological comfort and mental stimulation to patients.” said Lai Yonghong, the deputy chairman of the Medical Humanities Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, “Our aim and mission is to promote the development of humanistic medicine, improve the skills of doctors, and provide medical services with humanistic care for patients.”

“From the perspective of humanity, a good doctor-patient relationship requires doctors to illustrate the condition and treatment plan to patients, to communicate with patients and to make joint decisions with patients, that is how we can create a harmonious hospital culture and social atmosphere.” Lai added.

In addition to efforts made on medical humanities, Guangdong also attaches great importance on its overall medical service improvement.

In order to provide a better medical service in Guangdong, the provincial government has invested about 6 billion RMB in 20 hospitals to implement the "Peak Plan".

According to the "Peak Plan", efforts will be made by the hospitals concerned to improve the treatment of serious clinical problems, the research of clinical medicine, the introduction of talents and the management of hospitals in the next three years.

Moreover, Guangdong is expected more than 15 hospitals ranks top 100 nationwide in the next five years. With this aim, Guangdong will strive to improve its overall medical service so as to create a harmonious hospital culture and social atmosphere.
