The 2021 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) was held from September 2nd to 7th in Beijing. With the theme “Awesome Service, Amazing Guangdong”, the Guangdong Theme Day activity was held by the Guangdong province on September 3rd at the Fair. GPHL chairman Li Chuyuan was invited to attend the activity and made a speech on “How Guangdong-based GPHL entered the Fortune Global 500 list”.

“Guangdong is China’s economic powerhouse, and its Guangzhou and Shenzhen are two of the four major cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area,” Li Chuyuan said, “It boasts of strong economic power, a favourable business environment, active market players, and remarkable advantages of talent, science, education, and finance. It is a hotbed for businesses and provides national brands with strong support and protection when they are going global.”

In 2006, Guangdong took the lead to put forward the strategy of building a strong province of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and has thus maintained a leading position in TCM development in China. It is impossible for Guangdong-based GPHL to become the first company to enter the Fortune Global 500 list with TCM as its major business without considerable support from Guangdong's policies, according to Li Chuyuan.

In the future, GPHL will actively take part in the national, provincial, and municipal digital service development strategies, improve its digital innovation service capabilities, drive high-quality growth of the digital economy and digital trade, and work for becoming a world-class biomedical and healthcare enterprise with unique industrial characteristics and distinctive culture.

On September 5th, the 4th Belt and Road Forum for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development was held in Beijing during the Fair. It was co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Officials from home and abroad, diplomatic envoys to China, academics of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, experts, scholars, and representatives of leading enterprises were together for this forum with the theme “Traditional Chinese Medicine Helps Build a Community of Human Health”. GPHL chairman Li Chuyuan was invited to attend the forum and gave a keynote speech on the Belt and Road Initiative and the Internationalization of TCM. He summarised GPHL’s new exploration and latest results in the internationalization of TCM by adopting the concept of ‘Trendy TCM’.

GPHL ranked 468th on the Fortune Global 500 list released in 2021, becoming the first company to enter this list with TCM as its major business. In addition, GPHL was featured on the “2021 Global Most Valuable Pharma Brands” list released by Brand Finance, a well-known British brand value consulting company, ranking 19th.

GPHL specialized in TCM also holds a leading position in different segments, such as chemical drugs, biologic drugs, and pharma commerce. It currently has more than 200 research projects, including biologic drugs (vaccines and antibody), chemical drugs (Class I: innovative new drugs), premium raw materials and excipients, new TCMs, ancient classic prescriptions and preparations, special medical foods, covering a variety of pipelines, such as anti-tumor, anti-infection, treatment of immune diseases, and treatment of osteoarthritis.

“During the 15th Five-year Plan period, GPHL will integrate our rural revitalization efforts with plantations, production facilities, and commercial logistics of medicinal herbs in North China, Central China, East China, Northwest China, Southwest China, and other areas. Our international headquarters in Macao are taking GPHL global. With the geographic advantage and preferential policies of the Greater Bay Area, the Group will provide ‘GPHL’s solutions’ for people's health, seek to improve people’s health, and reduce medical expenses,” Li said.
