On September 21st, the 5th National Alzheimer's Disease Prevention Summit was held in Guangzhou with the purpose of raising public concern about cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases and brain health and promoting high-quality development and industrialization of relevant treatments. With the guidance and support of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Bureau of Guangdong Province, the Summit was hosted by Alzheimer's Disease China, Guangdong Precision Medicine Application Association and GPHL.

As one of the organizers, GPHL’s subsidiary Guangzhou Baiyun Mountain and Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. (BMHW) released a white paper during the Summit entitled: “Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Health and Social Responsibility”. This white paper is about BMHW’s achievements of philanthropic efforts during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. Sticking to GPHL’s commitment of “love for the world”, BMHW has educated people around the country with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular knowledge through yellow bracelet distribution, physical exercise promotion and square-dancing competitions.

On that day, experts from the Alzheimer's Disease Sub-association under the Guangdong Precision Medicine Application Association live streamed an online class named: “Introduction to Alzheimer's Disease”, whilst organizing offline activities so as to help citizens properly understand the disease and facilitate the prevention and treatment of the disease.

At the Summit, attendees made reports on studying the role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in prevention and control of COVID-19: keeping the brain healthy; ‘prevention is better than cure’; latest developments in Alzheimer's disease study (overview of AAIC 2020); risks of depression and dementia during (after) the pandemic and TCM solutions plus others including: latest developments of treatments for Alzheimer's disease..

Over the last eight years, Liu has led BMHW’s new drug development and TCM industrial innovation, which yielded positive results, such as Shennong Liquor. In 2018, Liu’s team launched the first Q-marker program for establishing the quality standards of traditional Chinese medicine Panax notoginseng (Sanqi), setting a new benchmark for the industry.
